Vanilla cupcakes with vanilla buttercream. How else would one celebrate DC's marriage equality bill?
I spent most of Friday making cupcakes for an event at my church, All Souls Unitarian, in Columbia Heights. All Souls was a big supporter of DC’s Marriage Equality Bill – in fact, the bill was signed in the church sanctuary. Last Saturday the church had a big celebration in honor of the bill. And what says celebration like cupcakes?
So here it is – my first really big cupcake challenge. I donated twelve dozen cupcakes – chocolate with a chocolate gaze, and vanilla with vanilla bean buttercream. Some might say these flavors are boring, but I think chocolate and vanilla are timeless, stylish classics. Like a really great tuxedo.

The chocolate ones look a little less impressive than the vanilla in the box, but believe me – they smelled amazing. I’m in love with that chocolate glaze.
The only bad moment came at around 1:00 am, when I accidentally tipped over a box of a dozen vanilla cupcakes and had to re-pipe them. Let’s just say I wasn’t a happy camper. Not at all.

Great job, Jenna!
Nice piping! Love the speckles the vanilla bean makes…
Great job!! I’m making a huge order in 2 weeks which is basically the same – chocolate and vanilla. I thought about getting fancy with the topping but with that many cupcakes, simple is key – and yours still look great!
These look so fantastic! I’m so glad all of your hard work paid off!!
