Why I’ve been missing. Part one: Wedding Cupcakes

by moderndomestic on June 7, 2010

Yes. I’ve been missing. Missing from this blog, missing from Facebook, missing from Twitter – sometimes it feels like I’ve been missing from my own life lately. But I have a good excuse, I do. I’ve been busy with lots and lots of baking projects – and this weekend, one of them was making cupcakes Mary’s wedding (aka The Arugula Files). Maybe you even saw her very, very nice write up on ModernDomestic last week!

She wanted three flavors – chocolate peanut butter, lemon, and carrot cake, so I’ve been tinkering with my recipes for the past couple months in preparation. The trickiest so far has been the lemon cupcake – it’s been difficult to get the balance right between the cake, filling, and icing.

But, all in all, I was really happy with the way these came out – they’re certainly a lovely reason for a blog hiatus. Do you want cupcakes at your wedding too? Shoot me an email and we can talk.

Chocolate cupcakes with peanut butter frosting. These might be my favorites.

Carrot cake - the cream cheese icing got a little melty, but I love the way it tastes.

Lemon cupcakes, filled with lemon curd, and iced with lemon cream cheese icing. And yes, that's candied lemon peel on top.

Beautiful!

I might not be getting married, but I’d take one of those cupcakes any day :)

They were pretty and delicious. Your tinkering paid off because the lemon was my favorite. Thank you Jenna!

Gorgeous! I like the way the piping looks. I would like to be in DC next time you cater something so that I can eat it!

Hey there… I am actually a consultant working in the city but I’m planning on starting a pastry program in January and leaving my job to pursue my passion — BAKING! I would love to talk to you more about what you’re doing. I’ve baked things for corporate events, birthday parties, grad parties, bridal showers and other various events. Let’s chat if you’re up for it!!

Happy baking and good luck!!

That is SO COOL! Congrats on this big new step – it was the scariest and best thing I’ve ever done. Yes, I’d totally meet up to chat.

These look great! My icing never comes out that perfectly – what’s your secret?

No secret, really – I’ve just tinkered with the recipes enough to get them the way I like them. Although now that I make buttercreams all the time at Treet I’m certainly getting much better at making them!

Whenever I get married, you’re the first person I’m coming to.

I just hope I don’t have to get married to enjoy one of those…they look pretty great 😉 (esp the choc/pb and carrot cake)
