Why I’ve been missing: Part Two: Red Velvet Anniversary Cake

Red Velvet Anniversary Cake 2

Red velvet cake with cream cheese icing. I only wish I had a photo of the inside of the cake.

Another reason I’ve been missing lately is that I was hired to cater a graduation party last Sunday (more on that a little later in the week) and part of the project was making a red velvet cake with cream cheese icing. It was served at the party to honor the first wedding anniversary of Warren Richey and Linda Feldmann, both guests at the party and reporters for the Christian Science Monitor. Their anniversary fell on the same day as the graduation and, well, why not celebrate as much as possible?

Richey, a reporter for the Christian Science Monitor, actually just wrote a memoir about his divorce, remarriage, and trip kayaking around Florida in 30 days, and was in town for a book event. The book, “Without A Paddle,” sounds fascinating (I’m a sucker for memoirs), and I was tickled that I got to make the cake to celebrate their anniversary. You can check the book out and learn more about it at www.warrenrichey.com.

I don’t need to see the inside to know that that sucker is delicious.

The frosting details are awesome! I never have the patience to do stuff like that.

Nice work Jenna!

How long did the icing job take? It’s PERFECT.

Oh my God – not long at all. It’s actually a really easy effect to create – I can totally show you some time. It’s all about using the star tip for piping.
