Dessert Party (aka How to Get Rid of Excess Desserts)

Dessert Party 8

Many mini cakes. I kind of love mini cakes.

My house is on dessert overload. I’ve been developing some recipes for a new project (which I’ll be talking about in the coming weeks – stay tuned!) and, as a result, I have SO MANY desserts stockpiled in my refrigerator and freezer that it’s not even funny. And this weekend I just had to make a cake (no, really, I had to – the chocolate coffee cake recipe from the new Baked book was obsessing me so much I had to make it), so the dessert situation was getting a little . . . out of hand. There was just one thing to do.

I had to throw a dessert party.

After all, if you have so many desserts that there’s no way you can consume them all, then why not just make a party out of it? And for all you avid bakers out there, let me tell you – this is an excellent way to get rid of your excess desserts (and see your friends). The only difficult thing is that, after the party was over, all I wanted to do was order a pizza.

I have some pictures of my dessert party below. What’s the best dessert you’ve ever served at a party? What would you serve at a dessert themed party?

Dessert Party 9

More mini bites. The ones in the front are my lime bars. I cannot resist them.

Dessert Party 5

Grasshopper bars. These are my favorite. I love chocolate and mint.

Dessert Party 4

Mini cupcakes from Treet, and a chocolate cake with coffee buttercream and chocolate glaze. And yes. I had to make that cake. You may think it's excessive, but that cake was calling to me. I absolutely had to make it.

Dessert Party 2

Bavarians - a remnant of pasty class. These actually look rather plain, but they were a huge hit! Who doesn't like frozen vanilla creamy deliciousness?

Dessert Party 10

Chocolate mousse, also left over from pastry class. Truly simple, truly delicious.

Dessert Party 1

Me and my desserts. What I really wanted at that moment was a pizza.

Looks good Jenna! I just have one suggestion. Perhaps you should have used circular cookie cutters to make all the shapes even.

Oh, I’ve thought of that! Cake is actually really hard to cut with cookie cutters – it just kind of collapses, and squares waste less of the product. But I definitely need to measure better next time!

Even shapes? Why bother when I’m sure the guests devoured everything immediately. Looks delicious!

I sent the invite out late in the week, and I always figure that a fab guy like you has plans on Saturday night. Next time I’ll include you :-)

Usually. But I’d have made an exception would I not have been in San Diego, actually, I think the BF would have gone without me, those pictures are great.
