Merry Christmas (And How to Make A Christmas Tree)

by moderndomestic on December 24, 2010

A home-made Christmas tree.

Merry Christmas (Eve) – to everyone who celebrates Christmas, anyway. Today I’ll be doing some last-minute shopping, making a topping for my Christmas Eve dessert (cheesecake) and making biscotti with Mango and Tomato. Later, it’s off to All Souls for the late night service that includes many, many Christmas carols.

I thought I’d share my little home-made Christmas tree project, since my Facebook peeps seemed to get a kick out of it. I didn’t want to spend the money on a Christmas tree this year, so instead I collected a bunch of branches from my neighborhood (literally, they were just lying next to the sidewalk), stuck them into an old Ikea lamp base, and decorated them like a Christmas tree. No, it doesn’t have the fullness or height of an actual tree, but standing on top of my dining room table, it looks pretty damn cool. I love the structure of the branches, and  how exposed all the ornaments are.

So there you have it – a Christmas tree that was entirely free, and constructed with just a little know-how and determination. I hope everyone has a lovely holiday, filled with many delicious desserts.

What is everyone else doing for Christmas Eve?
