It’s been a long month. A strange month, but not without its bright spots. I’ve been immersing myself in the art of soup making over at Soupergirl – a vegan soup delivery service. Sara’s soup is lovely, as is working in her kitchen. I’m trying to become a faster onion peeler, a better cutting-board washer, and to remember my hat on a daily basis (the last one is the hardest).
But I miss baking. Or, rather, I miss baking in a bakery. Because I have been baking – in fact, I’ve been up to my ears in cookies, cupcakes, and marshmallows. I recently did a little math and realized that I’ve baked almost 700 cookies for my cookie boxes – all out of my half oven. That, with several hundred cupcakes and mini cupcakes for Spilled Milk, has made for many 10 hour baking days this month.
But I miss the company of other bakers. It is a privilege, I’ve realized, to come to work every day and discuss the cake you tried to make last night with people who are passionate, expert bakers. What you learn working in a kitchen doesn’t only come from the work itself – it comes from the people you work with. Baking on my own all day in my tiny kitchen isn’t the same.
Still, the cookie boxes have kept me occupied – one of the reasons I started making them was to keep myself from going crazy after Treet closed. And here it is, almost a month later, and I’m officially un-crazy. So thank you to everyone who’s ordered. Your support is much more than just business – it’s allowing me to do this work that I love.
With that in mind, there’s still a few days until Christmas, and I can definitely take some more cookie orders. I’ll take them up to 5:00 pm, December 23rd. So if you have a deep desire for a box of 20 delicious cookies, just fill out the order form. We can figure out a pick up or delivery option – email me to set it up. If you want more details on what’s in the boxes, check out my original post.
