Yes, it’s been awhile. Part of me feels bad because it means that I’ve neglected this space that’s brought me so much (and my mother misses my posts!). But it’s all for good reasons – I’ve been so busy baking for friends and family, working my jobs (at Soupergirl and The Big Cheese), making desserts for Spilled Milk, working with DC Supper Club, and working on a new project (which I’ll hopefully be sharing more about with you soon) that I really haven’t had time to write. Or bake anything for fun. Or sleep. I’ve been having so much fun with my work that, well, this blog has been the thing that’s fallen through the cracks. Nevertheless, I resolve to do better in the next few months. Promise!
But I had actually had a day off today – The Big Cheese stayed in because of the rain and I had some time to do things I haven’t done for far too long – like cleaning the bathroom, making a real dinner, and updating this blog.
So what’s the latest thing I’ve been busy with? Concocting some desserts for The Big Cheese. One of my creations is kind of like a PayDay bar – peanuts tossed with dark vanilla caramel sauce and kosher salt and spread on a shortbread crust. I’m not sure what to call it, but “salty peanut caramel bar” sounds like a good start.
We debuted this dessert on Wednesday and, so far, we’ve only sold one. So if you’re at The Big Cheese and see a peanut-y thing on the menu, I suggest you try one. It’s salty and sweet and crunchy – part candy bar, part cookie, and just a little dreamy.
