Gadget Love – Ateco’s Small Offset Spatula

by moderndomestic on March 14, 2011

Sometimes it's the little things.

You all know that I’m a gadget hater. Most kitchen gadets exist to do only one thing – like separate eggs – that you can easily do without the gadget (like, say, use your hands or the egg shell to separate eggs). But there are some kitchen tools that I really can’t live without, which I find myself using again and again, and which perform a function I can’t do with anything else.

The Ateco small offset spatula is one of those items. I use it all the time. I use it to smooth the surfaces of small cakes and brownies before I put them into the oven. I use it to smooth small patches of icing when I’m icing a big cake – where a big spatula will cover too much surface area. And I use it to move delicate items – like limes bars or small slices of cake – onto plates. It’s a small thing that I find many uses for – and I’m very happy to have in my kitchen.

What’s a small kitchen tool or gadget that you can’t live without?

I have a mini wire whisk I love for beating eggs, making hot chocolate or mixing together small dry goods… it’s easier to clean than the big one and mixes better than a spoon :)
